Read about our students who attended prestigious Summer Intensives after auditioning for School of American Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, and Joffrey Ballet in 2012: Special Story (story featured in Highlander)--we are so proud that we have dancers going to these programs!!! Dancers mentioned in the article have continue their studies with ABT, Los Angeles Ballet, Alvin Ailey, Joffrey Ballet, School of American Ballet, Maple Conservatory, Long Beach Ballet, Cal State Fullerton, and University of California, Irvine!
Introduction about school and training:
Academy en l'Air, formerly Dance en l'Air founded by Marielle Reyes, carried on Mrs. Reyes's dance legacy into the school's restructuring on July 1, 2007. The studio is dedicated to classical training both for the serious student with professional goals and for students who wish to pursue healthy ways of achieving grace, balance, and well-being through beautiful movement.
The school offers pre-ballet, beginning, intermediate, advanced, men/boys, and adult levels. The academy features a very cohesive program stressing continuity . We encourage a mentoring model for our senior division dancers and volunteer junior dancers to share with our younger students the important techniques that they have acquired in their training.
Additionally, jazz and contemporary/lyrical, tap, and conditioning classes have been added to the studio offerings--we are very proud of this expansion!
The studio is a professional member of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance, southwest district research consortium, with affiliation to the National Dance Association and the American Alliance for for Physical Activity and Recreation. The studio is able to help students in academic programs seeking reinforcement of their physical education requirements in school.
Association with California Classical Youth Ballet-- The studio is also home to a non-profit performing youth company, California Classical Youth Ballet, presenting many classics such as The Nutcracker, Enchanted Toy Shoppe, and Sleeping Beauty as well as recent works such as Gems, Strings of Pearls, and a Faerie Tale. The company has enjoyed the participation and contributions of dancers and their directors such as San Jose Ballet/ Pacific Ballet Academy with Marion Chaeff and Rima Chaeff and Pasadena Civic Ballet with Diane deFranco Browne. Teresa Reyes ,who danced with New York City Ballet, is on the advisory council for CCYB. Academy en l'Air students are not required to perform with CCYB but it is an enjoyable and natural part of progress of the dancer. Please visit the link for more information and watch for new events!
